Budget Runway

The two-minute manual

You put in what comes and goes. It shows you where you land.

Budget Runway isn't a spending tracker and it doesn't touch your bank. You type in your money once; it projects your balance forward — month by month, through every currency you use — and points out the months that matter.

Think of it as a weather forecast for your bank balance. Enter today's conditions once, and see the next few years.

What you tell it — about 5 minutes, once

Income this month

You enter Your take-home pay, plus any regular side income.

So you get It knows how much you actually have to work with each month.

Scheduled & future income

You enter A bonus, a tax refund, a pay rise — with the month it lands.

So you get The good months show up in the plan, not just the steady ones.

Fixed expenses

You enter Rent, utilities, phone, transit pass, subscriptions.

So you get The part of your money that's already committed before you spend a cent.

Variable expenses

You enter Groceries, going out, transport — a normal month's rough total.

So you get A realistic picture, not a fantasy one. Guessing is fine here.

Insurance & investments

You enter Health cover, pension top-ups, money you move into savings or funds.

So you get The money you're deliberately putting aside is counted, so your “leftover” is honest.

Loans

You enter Each loan's monthly repayment and the month it finishes.

So you get You see your balance climb faster the month a loan drops off.

Earn in one currency and spend or send in another? Give each line its own currency and set the rates once — everything is converted to the one you choose.

What it tells you back

Am I saving or slipping — and by how much?

One number at the top: your net per month. Green if you're putting money aside, red if you're drawing it down.

How much of my income is already spoken for?

A single bar shows the share going to bills, spending, premiums and loans — and how much is left to save.

Where is my balance headed?

A chart of your projected balance for the next 1 to 10 years, in one line. You choose how far ahead to look.

When do things change?

Milestones mark the month you're back above zero, the month each loan clears, and what you'll have saved by any date you pick.

What does each month actually look like?

A month-by-month table, so a tight month or a big one is never a surprise.

Using it

  1. Sign up and open the example budget. It's pre-filled so you can see what a finished one looks like — then change the numbers to yours.
  2. Work down the left side. Income, then expenses, then loans. Add a row, type, move on. The results on the right update as you go.
  3. Set how far ahead to look in Projection settings — 1 year, 3 years, 10 — and read the chart, the milestones, and the table.
  4. Come back whenever life changes. A raise, a new bill, a loan paid off — update the one line and the whole picture shifts.

Worth knowing

  • Only you can see your numbers. Not other users, not us — the app has no way for staff to read your budget.
  • There's no save button. It saves as you type and syncs across your phone and laptop.
  • You can keep several budgets — one for you, one for a joint plan, a “what if I moved” version.
  • It's free. Ads keep the lights on; a paid plan removes them later if you want.
  • Export or delete everything anytime from your account page.

That's the whole thing.
